A straight answer about local business

Find Knoxville is a free directory of businesses across the greater Knoxville area — the nine counties of the Knoxville metropolitan statistical area plus every county that borders it. Right now that is 494 listings in 39 cities and towns.

Why we built it

Look up any local business and you get scattered fragments: a Google profile, a Facebook page somebody stopped updating, an old Yelp entry, maybe a website. Piecing together whether a roofer is any good takes six tabs and a lot of guessing.

So we put it in one place. One page per business, every link we can verify, and a single rating that accounts for how many people reviewed them and where.

How the rating works

Each platform is normalised to a five-point scale and weighted by how much signal it carries — a Google score with 900 reviews counts for more than a Facebook score with four. Everything is then blended against a baseline average, so a business with one perfect review does not leapfrog one with a decade of 4.6s. No single platform can dominate a score, and we show you every number that went into it.

We do not write reviews and we do not host them. We point at the platforms that do.

What it costs

Nothing. Listing is free. Claiming your business is free. There is no premium tier, no pay-to-rank, and no sponsored placement mixed into results. Nobody can buy their way up this directory.

It works because Powers Advertising, a Knoxville agency, pays for it. That is the whole arrangement — a local firm building something useful for the place it works in.

Corrections

Listings are compiled from public sources, and public sources go stale. If something is wrong — a business has closed, moved, changed hands, or we got a detail wrong — tell us and we will fix it. If you run the business, claim your listing and you can edit it directly.
